Indeed, who doesn't make mistakes?
I once read that "He who is sinless let him cast a stone at her"
How many thoughts do we have in our mind?
How far do they take us?
Here, is a summary of our thoughts..

Frustrating thoughts:
Those which flare up to burn their holder, not to illuminate his way..

Enlightened thoughts:
Those which come not only to enlighten their holder, but to enlighten all the people..

Dark thoughts:
Those which make darkness out of light,
Make nothingness out of existence,
And make nothing out of everything..

Bright thoughts:
Those which come as clear as the sunrise,
They don't involve hesitation,
nor frustration..

Pessimistic thoughts:
Brutally kill the hope,
Deform its meaning,
And wrongfully execute it,
Until they convince their holder that he is helpless,
That the hope is an absent deformed person,
It's even an old decrepit who leans on a broken cane,
He might fall and need someone to rescue him,
When you're in a bad need to be the rescued one..

Optimistic thoughts:
Those which give birth to the hope,
From a suffering womb,
In spite of the pain, they make life a garden of hope,
They put aside a thing called pessimism,
And never look back..
They serve hope on a golden plate,
For such demons...

In this way, I learned more from their mistakes and from mine in life..

Well, I'm really busy these days, I translated this on the sopt, plz if you have any comments just click on add a comment and do it :D
Happy Eid :)

By Mahmmod Darweesh

Deep inside me,
there lies a hidden symphony,
I fear for it from solo playing..

To me, it strokes the right cord, lol :D any comments?

Picked by Arwa Omar,

In the evening, I said to him:" Good morning",
He then replied: "Are you depreciating me or joking?"
I said to him: "The sunshine of your face misled me,
So I fancied that the evening was the morning."

Any comments on my translation?

A Poem Against War

Near the band shell are Elms planted
for heroes of a forgotten war..
The trees create a thick canopy,
It’s cool,
No grass grows..
A narrow path is pounded out by joggers,
who pass never noticing the plaques,
filled with names..
A child might say this place is haunted,
I only feel its sadness..
Young men who fought and died,
never knowing what it is to live,
I walk here each day,
My pace quickens at its dark center..

by Karen Karpowich

Couldn't come with better than this..

Give me my feet back,
So that I would walk to you,
And console you in what you've done to us!
Because I've become no better than you..

Give me my hands back,
So that I would throw my flowers,
On the flowers of your hopes..

Give me my heart back,
So that I would pluck its roots out,
And light a candle in your gloomy morning..

Give me my lips back,
Perhaps the horror might help me,
To give you an idea about your atrocities..

Give me my eyes back,
So that I would cry over the spirits of your children,
Are you surprised that I cry?
Indeed, I do..
Because I've never been
as Stonyhearted and savage as you..

I like many of matar's poems, I hope that you like my translation :)

The Two Frogs

A group of frogs were traveling through the woods, and two of them fell into a deep pit. When the other frogs saw how deep the pit was, they told the two frogs that they were as good as dead. The two frogs ignored the comments and tried to jump up out of the pit with all their might. The other frogs kept telling them to stop, that they were as good as dead. Finally, one of the frogs took heed to what the other frogs were saying and gave up. He fell down and died.

The other frog continued to jump as hard as he could. Once again, the crowd of frogs yelled at him to stop the pain and just die. He jumped even harder and finally made it out. When he got out, the other frogs said, "Did you not hear us?" The frog explained to them that he was deaf. He thought they were encouraging him the entire time.

What a moral it has! I loved it. It's a good story to be told for kids. I hope you like my translation :)

Lol, I like this one :)

Once upon a time there were a huge apple tree and a little child who played around it everyday.
He climbed its branches, ate its fruit, then he took a nap in its shade.
He loved the tree and the tree loved playing with him.
Life went on, and the child grew. He no longer played around it everyday.

One day, the boy returned sad. The tree said to him: "Come and play with me."
The boy replied: "I'm no longer that little child to play around you. I want some toys and I need money to buy them."

The tree replied:" I have no money! But you can take all the apples I have to sell them and get the money you want."
The boy was so happy. He climbed the tree, collected all the apples it had and left happily.
The boy, then, didn't come back, so the tree became sad.

One day, the boy came but he became a man then. The tree was extremely happy to have him back and said:" Come and play with me."
But he answered:" I have no time to play. I've become a man who's responsible for a family and we need a house to shelter us. Can you help me?"
It said: "Sorry! I have no house, but you can take all my branches to build a house with them for you."
The man cut all the branches down and left happily.
The tree was glad to see him happy, but the man never came back..
Again, the tree was sad and lonely.

On a hot day of summer's, the man came back. The tree was extremely happy and said: "come and play with me."
The man said: "I've grown old, and I want to sail to any place to rest. Can you give me a boat?"
It replied: "Take my trunk to make a boat, and then sail away so you can be happy..."
The man cut the trunk of the tree down and made a boat.
He sailed and never came back for a long time.

Finally, the man came after a long time. However, the tree said: "I'm sorry son, I have nothing to give you."
It said:" I have no apples."
He replied: "It's ok; I have no teeth to bite them."
It said crying: "nothing is left but dead roots"
He replied:" All I need now is a place to rest in. I'm tired after all these years."
It said:" The roots of an old tree are the best place to rest in. Come, come and sit with me to rest."
The man sat resting on it, and the tree was smiling with tears in its eyes.

Do you know who's that tree? It's your parents.

Nice story :) I hope you like my translation..

I hunger for my mother's bread,
my mother's coffee,
and my mother's touch..
Childhood grows within me
Day after day,
and I adore my life
because if I die,
I'd be ashamed of the tears
from my mother's eyes..

Take me,
If I ever come back..

As a scarf for your eyelashes
and wrap my bones with grass,
that was baptized in the purity of your heel bone,
And bind me with a lock of your hair,
with a thread that trails,
from the train of your gown..

Perhaps, I'd become a saint,
A saint I'd become,
If I touched the depth of your heart..

Put me,
If I ever return..
as firewood in your kiln,

as a clothesline on your rooftop,
For I have lost standing,
without your day prayer..

I have grown old,
So bring back the stars of childhood,

So that I share the way home,
With the young birds

to the nest of your waiting..

I hope you like my translation. I tried to avoid saying (I'd became a god) as the song literally said, and tried to give the meaning only without being literal. Thanks for Ghada AlGraawi for picking this lovely poem.

Before they left they asked him to take care of an old tree, but he neglected it, so its leaves and branches withered. One day when he was passing by the tree it fell and killed him.

The Obstacle in our Path

In ancient times, a king had a boulder placed on a roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to see if anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the king's wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it.
Many loudly blamed the king for not keeping the roads clear, but none did anything about getting the big stone out of the way. Then a peasant came along carrying a load of vegetables. On approaching the boulder, the peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the stone to the side of the road. After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded. As the peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a purse lying in the road where the boulder had been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note from the king indicating that the gold was for the person who removed the boulder from the roadway. The peasant learned what many others never understand.

Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve one's condition.

Hope you like my tranlsation.

The minister shook hands with him, giving him a certificate of appreciation and a memorial shield and saying: I wish you a new life full of success… The man left the ceremony to sell the shield at the flea market and buy bread for his children…

Can you come with better than this? I think it still needs some modification.

Summer has come with an oppressive heat that not only melts bodies but brains, too. Perhaps it melts some morals also for it impels people to do what they were not to.

If you can come with better translation, just do it :D

One Life Gone,Two People Dead !

A mother is devastated, she is howling with pain, yelling all she can in that dark and dingy corner of her four by four kholi. There was nobody to hear her yell and not a soul to pacify her, because outside her shack is a long winding lonely road. There was no existence of mankind for miles and miles ahead. The wind was at rest, the leaves didn’t rustle and no resonance of a barking dog, silence filled the air. Loneliness was already killing her, but no one knows what made her cry?

Losing something you love with all your heart isn’t really the grief you can ever overcome. Radha lost her baby. Her only means to live. She saw her child getting crushed under a car in front of her own eyes. Blood was all over and the accident was terrible. One lonely night, she was walking down the street t get a breath of fresh air with her child cuddled tight in her arms. She walked a long time s till she saw the face of mankind (in the evilest form).

The whole time she walked with her child in her arms the only thing that worried her was Aryans (her son’s) future. What kind of a person will he be? Will he make me proud? How much light is life going to bring in his existence? She was imagining and feeling every day of the Childs growth, and what she had in store for him. But who knows what’s in store for us tomorrow, life can change in the splits of a second. Talk about destiny, all those dreams hopes and expectations were snatched away from her in an instant. Her smiles were frowns and her faith just crumbled, like a deal soul in a living, rather breathing body.

This is how it happened…. On that abandoned road, were a few streetlights barely sufficient? There was this one light that was visible from a distance, but as it came closer it got brighter and brighter. That light changed radha’s life into darkness forever. A speeding car came down that road, as if the driver had jammed the accelerator, cutting across the wind. He came at a speed of 110 kmph throwing beer bottles out of his half open window. He was definitely drunk, the speed took everything in its path. Just then, there was a loud cry, and silence set in again. The cry of a baby and no sight of a child.

Ironically the mother wasn’t hurt, not a scratch on a body, not a bruise on her arm. She opened her eyes and didn’t she Aryan, her vision was blur. After a few minutes when her sight cleared up she looked all over frantically for her baby, but alas! There was nothing. Just then she noticed something about ten feet away it was blood and pieces of minced flesh, laying there saying so much without saying anything at all. The blood of her baby, the child who hadn’t even seen life..

I'm touched by this story, how could one take a life but kill a number of people! Simply, drive CAREFULLY!
Waiting for your comments :)

Picked by Nuha,

When they let your lovely feelings down,
Break your dreams with a frown,
And they depart as the days,
As a lifetime..
A wound grows in your heart,
As wide as the void they leave behind,
Then, the days bring them back to you,
How would you welcome them?
What would you say to them?

Tell them,
That you've closed all the wait stations behind them,
You no longer wear that garment of eagerness,
And wait at the station for their arrival,
Observing the people coming,
Staring at the travellers faces,
Looking in the crowd for their shadows,
perfumes,
and traces,
Perhaps a sweet coincidence brings them back to you..

Tell them,
You've bled them in the moments of your distress,
of your grief,
You've aborted them in the moments of their absence,
Like a dead fetus,
And that you've set them free from you,
Like birds,
You've closed your doors upon their departure,
And promised yourself not to open them again,
Except for those who deserve...

Lovely poem, I enjoyed translating it :)

I was wondering once,
Why did texts always bleed with pain and agony?
They all bled sadly..
And after thinking deeply,
I've realized that happy people don't know how to read or write..

I was wondering once,
Why did foolishness take hold of our lives and souls as its home
without permission?
And after thinking for a while,
I've realized how "foolish" my question was,
Because foolishness is "stupid"
Does not perceive anything but foolishness..

I was wondering once,
Why did we cling to the door of hope?
After that fate has passed us by,
and left a wish for us...
If we were one of those who entered its world,
we'd knock on its door again, though it has been closed for good..

After pondering,
I've realized that who lives unmindful of hope is a lucky person,
for that hope has chosen them,
So I've decided to disguise in being unmindful of it.,

I'm wondering now,
Why do we ask questions and always fill our universe with inquiry?
And I've realized that questioning is a motive
for still waters to run,
And for the truth to carry on..

Dalal is a good writer, God bless her.
I'd love to read your opinions about my translation :)

The Mountain Story

"A son and his father were walking on the mountains.Suddenly, his son falls, hurts himself and screams: "AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"
To his surprise, he hears the voice repeating, somewhere in the mountain: "AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"
Curious, he yells: "Who are you?"
He receives the answer: "Who are you?"
And then he screams to the mountain: "I admire you!"
The voice answers: "I admire you!"
Angered at the response, he screams: "Coward!"
He receives the answer: "Coward!"
He looks to his father and asks: "What's going on?"
The father smiles and says: "My son, pay attention."
Again the man screams: "You are a champion!"
The voice answers: "You are a champion!"
The boy is surprised, but does not understand.
Then the father explains: "People call this ECHO, but really this is LIFE.It gives you back everything you say or do. Our life is simply a reflection of our actions. If you want more love in the world, create more love in your heart. If you want more competence in your team, improve your competence. This relationship applies to everything, in all aspects of life;Life will give you back everything you have given to it."

YOUR LIFE IS NOT A COINCIDENCE. IT'S A REFLECTION OF YOU!"

A Sick Rose

O Rose , thou art sick!
The invisible worm
That flies in the night,
In the howling storm,
Has found out by bed
Of crimson joy,
And his dark secret love
Does thy life destroy..

The Window

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour a day to drain the fluids from his lungs. His bed was next to the room's only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back.
The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation. And every afternoon when the man in the bed next to the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window.
The man in the other bed would live for those one-hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the outside world. The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake, the man had said. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Lovers walked arm in arm amid flowers of every color of the rainbow. Grand old trees graced the landscape, and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance. As the man by the window described all this in exquisite detail, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine the picturesque scene.
One warm afternoon the man by the window described a parade passing by. Although the other man could not hear the band, he could see it in his mind's eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words. Unexpectedly, an alien thought entered his head: Why should hehave all the pleasure of seeing everything while I never get to see anything? It didn't seem fair. As the thought fermented, the man felt ashamed at first. But as the days passed and he missed seeing more sights, his envy eroded into resentment and soon turned him sour. He began to brood and found himself unable to sleep. He should be by that window - and that thought now controlled his life.
Late one night, as he lay staring at the ceiling, the man by the window began to cough. He was choking on the fluid in his lungs. The other man watched in the dimly lit room as the struggling man by the window groped for the button to call for help. Listening from across the room, he never moved, never pushed his own button which would have brought the nurse running. In less than five minutes, the coughing and choking stopped, along with the sound of breathing. Now, there was only silence--deathly silence.
The following morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths. When she found the lifeless body of the man by the window, she was saddened and called the hospital attendant to take it away--no words, no fuss. As soon as it seemed appropriate, the man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone.
Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look. Finally, he would have the joy of seeing it all himself. He strained to slowly turn to look out the window beside the bed. It faced a blank wall.

Unconditional Love

A story is told about a soldier who was finally coming home after having fought in Vietnam. He called his parents from San Francisco.
"Mom and Dad, I'm coming home, but I've a favor to ask. I have a friend I'd like to bring home with me."
"Sure," they replied, "we'd love to meet him."
"There's something you should know the son continued, "he was hurt pretty badly in the fighting. He stepped on a land mind and lost an arm and a leg. He has nowhere else to go, and I want him to come live with us."
"I'm sorry to hear that, son. Maybe we can help him find somewhere to live."
"No, Mom and Dad, I want him to live with us."
"Son," said the father, "you don't know what you're asking. Someone with such a handicap would be a terrible burden on us. We have our own lives to live, and we can't let something like this interfere with our lives. I think you should just come home and forget about this guy. He'll find a way to live on his own."
At that point, the son hung up the phone. The parents heard nothing more from him. A few days later, however, they received a call from the San Francisco police. Their son had died after falling from a building, they were told. The police believed it was suicide. The grief-stricken parents flew to San Francisco and were taken to the city morgue to identify the body of their son. They recognized him, but to their horror they also discovered something they didn't know, their son had only one arm and one leg.

A box Full of Kisses

A man punished his 3-year-old daughter for wasting a roll of gold wrapping paper. Money was tight and he became infuriated when the child tried to decorate a box to put under the Christmas tree. Nevertheless, the little girl brought the gift to her father the next morning and said, "This is for you, Daddy." The man was embarrassed by his earlier overreaction, but his anger flared again when he found out the box was empty. He yelled at her, stating, "Don't you know, when you give someone a present, there is supposed to be something inside? The little girl looked up at him with tears in her eyes and cried, "Oh, Daddy, it's not empty at all. I blew kisses into the box. They're all for you, Daddy."The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little girl, and he begged for her forgiveness. Only a short time later, an accident took the life of the child. It is also told that her father kept that gold box by his bed for many years and, whenever he was discouraged, he would take out an imaginary kiss and remember the love of the child who had put it there.

Each one of us has been given a gold container filled with unconditional love and kisses... from our children, family members, friends, and God. There is simply no other possession, anyone could hold, more precious than this.

I kinda feel sad :s That little girl..
Anyway, How does my translation sound? Comment please :)

Love and Time

Once upon a time, there was an island where all the feelings lived: Happiness, Sadness, Knowledge, and all of the others, including Love. One day it was announced to the feelings that the island would sink, so all constructed boats and left. Except for Love.Love was the only one who stayed. Love wanted to hold out until the last possible moment. When the island had almost sunk, Love decided to ask for help.Richness was passing by Love in a grand boat. Love said, "Richness, can you take me with you?"Richness answered, "No, I can't. There is a lot of gold and silver in my boat. There is no place here for you."Love decided to ask Vanity who was also passing by in a beautiful vessel. "Vanity, please help me!""I can't help you, Love. You are all wet and might damage my boat," Vanity answered.Sadness was close by so Love asked, "Sadness, let me go with you.""Oh . . . Love, I am so sad that I need to be by myself!"Happiness passed by Love, too, but she was so happy that she did not even hear when Love called her. Suddenly, there was a voice, "Come, Love, I will take you." It was an elder. So blessed and overjoyed, Love even forgot to ask the elder where they were going. When they arrived at dry land, the elder went her own way. Realizing how much was owed the elder, Love asked Knowledge, "Who Helped me?""It was Time," Knowledge answered."Time?" asked Love. "But why did Time help me?"Knowledge smiled with deep wisdom and answered, "Because only Time is capable of understanding how valuable Love is."

Wonderful story, isn't it? I personally liked it very much.

Sand and Stone

A story tells that two friends were walking through the desert. During some point of the journey they had an argument, and one friend slapped the other one in the face. The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything, wrote in the sand: "TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SLAPPED ME IN THE FACE."
They kept on walking until they found an oasis, where they decided to take a bath. The one, who had been slapped, got stuck in the mire and started drowning, but the friend saved him. After the friend recovered from the near drowning, he wrote on a stone: "TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SAVED MY LIFE."
The friend who had slapped and saved his best friend asked him, "After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand and now, you write on a stone, why?"
The other friend replied: "When someone hurts us, we should write it down in sand where winds of forgiveness can erase it away. But, when someone does something good for us, we must engrave it in stone where no wind can ever erase it."

LEARN TO WRITE YOUR HURTS IN THE SAND, AND TO CARVE YOUR BENEFITS IN STONE..

I still don't know..
How your love came,
And how the colour of the sky once changed..
How the silent birds,
Never stopped to sing..
How the dark nights,
Glowed with glitter and light..

And I still don't know how it came..
And how the sky gave me,
All of its rain..

And I still don't know how it came..
But I only remember that
when I shook his hand,
My dreams left me up
and I neighboured the moon above..

The clown buried his only son and went on the stage, the audience laughed,
The clown dusted his hands off, the audience laughed even more,
The clown bursted into tears, laughters were louder and everywhere,
The clown fell dead on the stage, the audience stood clapping warmly..
Waiting for your participation :)

One morning, I went out carrying all the happiness in the world in my heart until I got on the bus, a man who sat next to me started to heavily somke. He slapped me with his smoke, spitted on the ground, started cursing the world and its inhabitants and left the bus after nudging my shoulder. I remained there trying to revive my wounded morning..
Waiting for your comments :) and please I want to see other versions of translation. It's a good practice for our midterm on Tuesday:)

About the Man Who Began Flying After Meeting Her

When he met her and they liked each other a great deal, he heard things better, and in his eyes the lines of the physical world were sharper than before. He was smarter, he was more aware, and he thought of new things to do with his days. He considered activities which before had been vaguely intriguing but which now seemed urgent, and which must, he thought, be done with his new companion. He wanted to fly in lightweight contraptions with her. He had always been intrigued by gliders, parachutes, ultra lights and hang-gliders, and now he felt that this would be a facet of their new life: that they would be a couple that flew around on weekends and on vacations, in small aircraft. They would learn the terminology; they would join clubs. They would have a trailer of some kind, or a large van, in which to hold their new machines and supple wings folded, and they would drive to new places to see from above. The kind of flying that interested him was close to the ground - less than a thousand feet above earth. He wanted to see things moving quickly below him, wanted to be able to wave to people below, to see wildebeest run and to count dolphins streaming away from shore. He hoped this was the kind of flying she'd want to do, too. He became so attached to the idea of this person and this flying and this life entwined that he was not sure what he would do if it did not become actual. He didn't want to do this flying alone; he would rather not do it than do it without her. But if he asked her to fly with him, and she expressed reservations, or was not inspired, would he stay with her? Could he? He decides that he would not. If she does not drive in the van with the wings carefully folded, he will have to leave, smile and leave, and then he will look again. But when and if he finds another companion, he knows his plan will not be for flying. It will be another plan with another person, because if he goes flying close to the earth it will be with her.

I liked this story and I thought that we can participate to reach a better translation that gives the same effect as the source text. Above is my translation, please participate, we're here to learn :)

The ones who love,
Don't have to wait for the flowers to bloom,
so they declare springtime,
Because, to them, flowers bloom
in the eyes of the ones they love..

And those who don't love,
Spend their lifetimes waiting at the doorstep of years,
Until they are carried by the nap of dormancy to the heights,
Where there's no difference between the seasons..

What do you think? Can you come with a better translation? Please I want you all to participate. :)

A Hope Whisper

Reaching a hand beneath the ruins of pain,
To build a new high building,

Sending a beam of hope beyond the piled up clouds of grief,
To elluminate tomorrow's path,

Rising with our hearts above the highest wounds,
And entering the cities of nowhere seeking a hope,

Turning the pages of a painful past from our days,
And making words out of our dreams to pour on tomorrow's pages,

Is the dignity of human.

Looking forward for your translation, comments and critique. :)

A song I wrote

It was time to say goodbye,
But I didn't know what to say
You whispered..please don't cry,
You'll be in my heart to stay
I was just wondering why,
Why did you have to walk away?

What about all the dreams,
Were they built on lies?
What is all that pain,
That I can see through your eyes?

As time passed by
You broke the silence with a sigh,
Then you went away..

Now there's no more you and I,
it's just me.. alone standing here
Trying not to shed a tear,
Waiting for you
cuz it's all I can do,
Dreaming of the day that you'll be near..

Oh, how tough life can be !
Some people come, others flee
Just wait and see,
how many broken hearts
But no matter how many miles in between,
We will never be apart
Cuz deep in my heart
is where you'll be..
